Bringing A Bit of Joy to My Image of God

Updated: Aug 18, 2022

I love the "I met God. She is black" idea. What if back in the day God had to perform in whitefaced drag to share her message? That'd explain why she professed the golden rule and loved the vulnerable. Yet, the religion that sprout around her was racist and patriarchal.

As a native of Costa Rica. A country that survived a Catholic-run genocide. This idea brings a bit of joy to my image of God. It breaks away from the sexist bigotry of the church. It lets me think of God as a good person and not as a doublespeak paradox.

Anne Hathaway described drag as "a transgressive act of joy". RuPaul says "we're all born naked and the rest is drag" So: What if God has been a whitefaced drag king all along?

TL;DR

I met God. She is black.

But she performs as a drag king in whiteface.

You know, for them sexist racist bigots.

A bit of Joy to my Image of God.
